Business is Victorious!

Another Year, Another Premiership

Once again, the mighty business boys showed their talent and superiority with a convincing 34 – 22 victory last Thursday night in the biz v law rugby match. The win takes the yearly tally to 2-0 and retains the trophy once again for the business faculty. The semesterly grudge match has become one of Bond’s signature events, and last week’s game proved to be no exception. Apart from the cold weather, this semester’s game had everything - free food, half-time cheerleaders and plenty of hard hits.

There evening provided entertainment all round with commentators Alex Smith & Sam Warriner calling the match, much to the referees disliking. With both sides itching to get things started, the game began with fierce competition. It was fairly even in the beginning until the business boys capitalised with a couple of quick tries. As the game progressed, the business boys looked like they were going to take it away, clocking up more points towards the end of the first half.

BSA President, Raoul D’Cruz, stepped up to the mark in the second-half, giving the business boys a lift with a good kickoff. The second half saw a tightening in the score-line, with the law boys touching down for a few tries. After many solid hits and a yellow card, the game started to look like it was turning, and the heat was on the business boys to knuckle down in defence. The law boys managed to bring it to within seven points, but never managed to get any closer and lost momentum late in the second half.

As the game drew to a close, the business boys took advantage of a struggling law team by pounding them with a few last minute tries. Man of the Match was awarded to Cameron Massie with a sterling performance leading the forwards to a strong victory. A big thank you must go to Gregory Russell (BSA Social Director) for organising and leading the business boys to another victory, and for taking out the 2009 trophy! We must also acknowledge BUSA, the LSA and all BSA members who were present on the night.
